The Process
First step…
If you’re considering a portrait session with us, we invite you to begin by completing the intake form on our website. From there, we’ll send a guide outlining our process along with a intentional questionnaire to better understand your expectations. This allows us to prepare intentionally before connecting on your consultation call.
Guided Wardrobe Styling
Clothing plays a quiet but important role in how a portrait feels. Simple, well-made pieces keep the focus where it belongs — on your child’s expression and presence — creating images that feel timeless rather than trend-driven. Our goal isn’t perfection, but harmony: wardrobe that supports the portrait without competing for attention.
Stylist will dress each subject prior to shoot and will be on set for the entire shoot.
Hair + Makeup
Hair and makeup should feel effortless and natural — never overdone. The goal isn’t to change how your child looks, but to help them feel comfortable and confident while ensuring skin tones photograph beautifully under studio lighting.
Stylist will style hair / makeup prior to shoot and will be on set for entire shoot.
Photography Session
At 57th Street Portraits, photographing children isn’t about extracting expressions on a schedule. It’s about creating the conditions for something real to unfold — and having the patience and experience to recognize it when it does. We approach children as we do light and composition: with restraint, attention, and respect for timing.
Retouching
Every selected image is meticulously retouched with a signature fine art approach, enhancing each detail to create a flawless finish.
Image Review
Immediately following your session, we will review the images with you, allowing you to promptly adorn your walls and socials with these exquisite works of art.
Prints & Digital
We celebrate the timeless beauty of fine art prints, crafted on exquisite papers to create framed pieces that will be cherished for generations.
“My daughter had the best experence with Frank and his team, capturing these beautiful images. The vibe and atmosphere was remarkable, and the quality of these prints are truely breathtaking, art that will last a lifetime.”

Frequently asked questions
-
Yes. We provide professional wardrobe styling to help coordinate pieces you already own, incorporate items from our curated studio collection, and thoughtfully source additional pieces if desired. Our goal is harmony — clothing that feels natural, elevated, and timeless.
-
We recommend simple, well-made pieces in soft, timeless tones. Clothing should support the portrait rather than compete for attention. After booking, you’ll receive a detailed styling guide with suggestions, color direction, and notes on what to bring.
-
How should my child prepare their hair and skin before the session?
Skincare
Clean, lightly moisturized skin is perfect for the day of your session. A gentle, fragrance-free moisturizer is ideal, and we recommend avoiding any new skincare products in the days leading up to your shoot. If your child has sensitivities or current skin concerns, just let us know — we’re happy to plan with you.Hair
Freshly washed and fully dried hair works beautifully. We suggest keeping styling simple and avoiding heavy products or tight accessories that may leave marks. If your child wears protective styles such as braids or twists, feel free to share details ahead of time so we can prepare thoughtfully.Additional Notes
If swimming happens the day before, a clarifying shampoo can help remove chlorine buildup. And as always, if there’s anything specific we should know to help your child feel comfortable, we welcome that conversation.https://www.57thstreetportraits.com/wardrobe-1-3-2 -
That’s completely normal. Our approach is not about extracting expressions on a schedule. We create an environment where your child can feel comfortable, and we allow moments to unfold naturally. Patience and experience are part of the process.
-
Absolutely. We understand how meaningful these moments can be, and grandparents are always welcome to attend.
We simply ask that anyone joining us allow the process to unfold naturally. We work with minimal verbal direction so expressions feel genuine rather than prompted. Extra encouragement to “smile” or look at the camera can sometimes pull children out of the moment.
That said, especially with younger children, we may invite a parent to quietly stand just behind us to help create connection and comfort when needed. Our goal is always the same — relaxed, authentic expressions that feel true to your child.
